— My Story & Philosophy

I’m Jeanne Pretorius (née Marais), and my journey with art began in a warm, creative home where I was encouraged to explore and express myself from a young age. As a self-taught artist, I’ve grown over the years into a passionate, multi-faceted painter, always seeking to capture something deeper in my work—something that speaks to the heart.

I’m especially drawn to the female form, and many know me for my exclusive figure studies—pieces that celebrate both the strength and vulnerability of women. That said, my work extends far beyond this. I also love creating dramatic landscapes and vivid urban scenes, often brought to life with bold, emotive colour palettes that awaken the senses.

Jeanne Marias Fine Artist

Working mainly in oils, I’ve spent the last 15+ years refining my techniques with both the palette knife and brush. I’ve had the joy of hosting three solo exhibitions (in 2010, 2012, and 2015), and my work is regularly featured in well-known galleries across Pretoria, Hartbeespoort, Clarens, and beyond. It’s been an honour to see my art reach homes not just in South Africa, but across the world.

These days, I live in Centurion with my wonderful husband Louis and our two daughters. I find inspiration daily—in the quiet beauty of life, in movement, emotion, and memory. For me, painting isn’t just a profession; it’s my passion, my expression, and my calling.
